So today is the day I start blogging about e-commerce. I've been providing e-commerce consulting services for over 10 years now and I've been meaning to start a blog for years, but I wasn't sure what I would write about. I spend the majority of my days engrossed in issues that directly relate to our customer's e-commerce initiatives and as you could imagine, the majority of our customers don't want anyone to know what we are doing for them to increase their e-commerce sales. Hell, most of my customers don't even want anyone knowing we are their vendor. So that has really kept me from stepping out of of the box and writing about issues that don't directly relate back to a customer initiative.
Well today it finally clicked. I shop online all the time because I hate shopping in stores and especially malls. I hate traffic, I hate lines and I hate wasting time trying to find what I'm looking for. OK, I hate people (just kidding, sort of). This time of the year when the stores are packed, it is difficult to find parking and the checkout lines are long, I'd rather hang out at the DMV than Macy's. So I experience BAD e-commerce sites all the time. I am shocked and amazed how many merchants will spend money to advertise a website that looks like they bought the cheapest hosting package they could find and threw the site together in a couple hours. These are sites that I just happened across from time to time and have nothing to do with our customers or prospects. These sites will be my muse!
